Gulab Jamun

Gulab Jamun

Who on the earth can resist this ? I guess one of the best made for each other combo is gulab jamun & vanilla ice-cream. Made this on dasara..it was bit more special for us this time. So couldn’t resist making something special. I used my sons formula powder for this as he stopped drinking formula and drinks normal milk and I had lots of formula left over. You can use  any milk powder available. For this no calorie count  please !!Here is the recipe

INGREDIENTS:-
Maida/Refined flour:- 2 cups
Milk powder:- 1 1/2 cup
Water:- to  make dough
Oil:- for deep frying
Sugar :- 2 cups
Water:- for syrup 5 cups
Salt:- very very little, a pinch
Vanilla essence:- a pinch(optional), you can use cardamom as well..
METHOD:-
  1. Mix maida, milk powder, salt and water to make soft dough. It needs to have the consistency of chapati dough.Brush your hands with oil if necessary.
  2. Meanwhile  dissolve sugar in 5 cups water and heat it. Bring it to boil and boil it till water reduces to half the volume. A vanilla essence/cardamom powder and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil for deep frying in a deep pan, make small balls of maida dough.Make small gol gol balls. Size of the gulab jamun depends upon your wish and will. So make the balls..and drop them one by one into heated oil. Keep stove on low flame and fry them…so that inside of balls also gets cooked
  4. Fry them until golden brown.
  5. Now drop them into sugar syrup :)
