how to make Dal Tadka

Dal Tadka

Stared working full time !!  and yeah it feels good :-) So even in morning rush hours where disco dance with steps matching with that of clock  ticking is very common , this is very quick and easy recipe. Goes well with anything, be it roti/ rice. For this I used mixed dal ( a combination of urad(black gram), chana(bengal gram), toor(yellow pigeon peas), masoor(Red lentis). If you don’t have these take 1/2 cup of each of them and it serves 3.

INGREDIENTS :-
All the dals as mentioned above :- total 3 cups
Tomatoes :- 3 large chopped finely
Onions :- 1 large chopped finely
Ginger garlic paste :- 2 teaspoons
Hing :- a pinch
Turmeric :-  pinch
Red chillies :- 3-4
Green chillies :- chopped finely 2-3
Salt :- as required
Oil :- 1/2 tablespoon
All the tempering (urad dal, jeera, mustard, chana dal) :- 1 teaspoon each
Curry leaves :- 4-5
Coriander leaves(to garnish) :- 1/2 bunch chopped finely
METHOD:-
  1. Take  a pressure pan , add oil and allow it to heat.
  2. Add all the tempering and fry them until slight brown.
  3. Crush curry leaves and them, add dry chillies, green chillies and hing.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and fry it until it looses raw smell.
  5. Add chopped onions and tomatoes and add salt and allow tomatoes to release the pulp . Mix well in between.
  6. Now add well washed dal . For 1 cup dal add 2 cups water.
  7. Add turmeric  and adjust salt. Pressure cook it for 3-4 whistles and simmer on low flame for 10 minutes.
  8. Open the lid after steam is gone and mash dal well and mix it. Dress it with coriander.
